Mike is an accomplished financial executive with more than thirty years of experience in financial and operations management with both publicly held and privately owned companies — both domestic and foreign.
Background
Mike has deep experience in assisting companies through their most critical times of transformation. Among Mike’s many accomplishments as a Partner with Tatum LLC he served as Interim Chief Financial Officer for a newly formed, venture capital backed, development stage life sciences company concurrently completing a merger, asset acquisition by purchase of in-process research and development assets and a $40 million capital raise. Mike served on an elite team of professionals assembled by a private equity group preparing a $1.5 billion carve out for placement in a foreign public market. He also served as Chief Financial Officer for a private equity-owned, rapidly growing restoration service company where he built a finance and accounting team, developed reporting and budgeting, and initiated policies and procedures. Other consulting engagements included; evaluating financial systems and reporting for select international operations of a private equity carve out of a multibillion dollar manufacturer and service provider in the mining industry; directing reporting for a large multinational law firm; and serving as Interim Chief Financial Officer for a family-owned multistate developer of residential real estate during a period of rapid growth, successfully designing and implementing improvements in the control environment.
Mike’s direct operating experience includes his time as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for a sixth-generation family manufacturer where he oversaw the installation of the company’s first ERP system, increased manufacturing capacity and expanded new product opportunities. Mike also, provided guidance and leadership to a public, clinical-stage life science company preparing for, entering, and emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. He served as North American CFO for a foreign-owned manufacturer of technical products where he developed cost containment and reorganization plans and directed the closing and sale of an underutilized plant, collectively reducing total group costs on average by 12% per year for four years. Mike was Vice President and Corporate Controller for a publicly held, clinical stage pharmaceutical company with contract manufacturing for product candidates sourced in Canada and Germany leading accounting, internal and SEC reporting, SOX compliance and grant reporting.
Mike served in the United State Navy, holds an MBA from Northeastern University and a BS from UMASS Dartmouth. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Massachusetts and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Mike is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and Financial Executives International.
Outside The Office
In his personal time, Mike enjoys playing golf and spends much of his energy working to end family homelessness. Since 2002 he has served on the Board of Directors of the David Jon Louison Foundation overseeing family shelters in Brockton, Massachusetts. In 2007 the Louison Foundation merged with the Old Colony YMCA. Mike remains an active member of the Family Services/Mentoring Branch Board of Governors of the Old Colony YMCA, serving as Chairman from 2007 to 2010.
